WTF is an NFT?
Well, an NFT is a digital token (a long string of monkey-type) that refers to a computationally expensive "smart" contract specifying that some idiot spent money to use up a few thousand kWh of electricity for the pleasure of permanently recording their stupidity on a blockchain (ie Etherium).
"Minting" is the process by which a gullible dope (the "artist") sadly performs a series of complications (that cost money) in order to create the token initially.
The belief is that the NFT proves the current ownership of some supposedly unique digital artifact (the "artwork"). However, it offers no proof of ownership of anything besides the token itself, and since any jackass can just copy the artwork, mint an NFT, and claim it as their own, the token is ultimately useless for determining provenance.
That's the gist of it anyway.
